Clatskanie PUD was recently recognized for their communication efforts by the Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA) at their annual Northwest Communications & Energy Innovations Conference awards banquet in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Excellence in Communication contest recognizes the top communication efforts from member utilities and associations from all around NWPPA’s service territory, which includes eight western states and two Canadian provinces.

This year NWPPA received nearly 160 entries from 37 different utility and association members, a number that tops the amount of participants from the past several years. Categories are broken up into four groups: Group A utilities having the smallest number of customers and Group D having the largest.

Competing in Group A, Clatskanie PUD received first place in the Pamphlet or Brochure category. The “Save Energy Save Money” brochure received a perfect score of 50 out of 50 from the judges. A second brochure highlighting the new headquarters, received 49 out of 50 points; however, a utility may only win once in each category. Other awards presented to CPUD were as follows: “Highlines,” the semi-annual newsletter took second in the newsletter category; Public Power Week media campaign and activities placed second in the media/ad campaign category and the annual calendar received second place honors in the annual report category.

This year’s awards are becoming a tradition for CPUD. In 2010, CPUD received the NWPPA award for the best overall communication efforts of the year. “It’s nice being recognized in the industry for our efforts. Communicating to our customer-owners is a high-priority and definitely a team effort” explains Booth.
