First Place Safety Award Winner

CPUD line crew with the first place safety award

Make more room for another award plaque on the wall as Clatskanie PUD was recently presented first place for the Safety Award from the Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA). Winners were announced at the annual NWPPA Engineering and Operations Conference last month. The safety contest award is based upon each utility’s safety contest form which reports the number of recordable injury/illness cases (the incident rate) in 2010 and the lost work days (the severity rate) in 2010. This year, 42 utilities from throughout the Northwest submitted their application for the contest. The number of entries received determined the categories for the contest.

Clatskanie PUD was in the 50,001 – 100,000 hours of exposure category with 88,614 total employee hours of exposure during 2010 with zero recordable work related injuries or illnesses resulting in zero days away from work. Safety ranks number one at Clatskanie PUD. Many steps are taken to ensure safety among both employees and customers including monthly safety training classes for employees and monthly safety committee meetings to discuss safety procedures and address any concerns or issues that may have arisen. “We want our people to go home safe everyday,” says Leo Quiachon, Engineering and Operations Manager. “Putting safety first is a top priority for the PUD.”
