Please Stay Away from Power Lines on the Ground or in Trees

Clatskanie People’s Utility District works hard to prevent power outages, but if one does occur we want to get the power back on as soon as possible.

Your help is needed to let us know if you are experiencing an outage. Clatskanie PUD does not have an automated metering system that detects outages, so the only way we know that you are out of power is for you to call and report it. Our office number is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Please call 503-728- 2163 to report an outage.

If you find yourself without power, please do the following: check your fuse or breaker box to see if they have blown or tripped; check with neighbors to see if they have power; and if your power is still out call the office at (503) 728-2163. We suggest that you unplug voltage sensitive equipment such as TVs, stereos, computers and microwaves, unless they are connected to a surge protector.

This will avoid damage from power surges when service is restored. Another important thing you can do to help the line crew is to turn your porch light or an outside light on.

This will let the line crew know that electric service has been restored to your home. If you see a line down or a tree tangled in power lines, STAY AWAY; the line may still be energized!

Any object touching power lines, including tree branches, can conduct a lethal electric charge.

Also, objects coming too close to a power line can cause electricity to “arc” across the gap.

We suggest that all of our customers be ready for any type of emergency that might cause a loss of power, especially in the winter months.

Each family should have an outage kit that includes; a first aid kit, warm blankets, flashlights, batteries, matches, candles, nonperishable food, water, a camp stove or grill for cooking, firewood, water repellent tarps, and a battery operated radio.
